Add a rough plan for food and cake, and a little preparation makes the whole party feel calm, organised and magical from the first minute.

Summer is one of our favourite times of year for children’s parties. Garden parties, village hall parties and at-home celebrations all work beautifully, especially when there is room for dancing, games, photos and character moments. Here is exactly what we kindly ask families to have ready.

Preparing the Party Space

A clear area for activities

Our parties include dancing, games, character interaction and group activities, so the children need enough room to move around safely. Good options include:

• A living room with furniture pushed to the sides
• A garden lawn or patio
• A marquee or gazebo
• A hired hall or shared outdoor space

Clear away trip hazards such as garden toys, hoses, low tables and loose rugs before guests arrive.

Shade for outdoor parties

Shade is really important in summer. Our entertainers are usually in full costume, wigs, stage makeup and character shoes, so long spells in direct sunlight can become very hot. A shaded area also keeps the children comfortable during games. A gazebo, parasol, shaded patio or nearby indoor room can make a big difference.

An indoor backup plan

British summer weather can change quickly. If your party is outside, always have an indoor option ready in case of rain, strong wind or very hot weather. Decide in advance which room you would use, so the switch takes minutes rather than interrupting the fun.

Planning the Flow of the Party

Food and cake timings

Food usually works best part-way through the party rather than at the start, so the children settle into the entertainment before sitting down to eat. Cake is best towards the end, especially if you would like photos with the character. Your entertainer will guide the flow on the day, but a rough plan makes everything smoother.

Bouncy castles and other distractions

Lots of families love bouncy castles, soft play and garden toys, but they can make it harder for children to focus on the entertainment. If possible, switch bouncy castles off during the main entertainment section, then turn them back on afterwards.

Pets, Siblings and Enjoying the Day

If you have pets, we recommend keeping them in a separate room during the main entertainment, as lots of excited children can unsettle even calm animals. Younger siblings are very welcome to watch and join in where suitable, though activities are usually aimed at the birthday child’s age group.

Once everything is set up, your entertainer will lead the party. The best thing you can do is relax, enjoy watching the birthday child have their special moment, and stay nearby in case we need anything.
